Lord God, put “stones” in my path so that I will remember how good you’ve been to me and then find hope to know that you will continue to be so good to me. Amen. Make me intentional about it so that we are setting up purposeful and meaningful memory hooks to call to our mind God’s graces to us, to remember his powerful acts for us, especially that we might always remember how he has saved us from hell so that we might live for him. It has become synonymous with the idea of God reaching down to lend a helping hand to those most in need. Ebenezer is a Hebrew word that means stone of help. He told them to set up stones of remembrance so that not only would the present generation remember what God had done for them, but so that future generations, who weren’t even there, would know those things that God had done for them as well. It’s so hard to remember and call to my mind all the saving things that you’ve done for me, for my family, for people in my community. Joshua gave good advice to the people of Israel so that they would have a better chance of remembering. Lord God, it is so easy to forget what you’ve done in my life and how you’ve been gracious again and again and again. When you look back at your life, do you focus on the successes, celebrations and victories Remember the amazing moments of Gods work. He said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’ Joshua 4:21-22
